Leader's Blessing

A leader, the broader and more responsible his role becomes, will find it harder to address every item on the agenda, down to the last. At a certain point, he will set his own priorities, deciding to first address the more important matters, followed by the less important ones. The portion of "פקודי" teaches that Moses our teacher saw it important to bless the entire nation upon the completion of the work of the Tabernacle — a blessing that would accompany them over time.

Leader's Integrity

The role of a public leader is filled with details. At times, he may feel he can forgo a certain task in favor of completing others. The portion of "פקודי" teaches that a leader must remain loyal to his role — and must also appear so. He must give a full account to the people regarding every donation or amount of money received by the public fund he oversees.

Mutual Responsibility

The people of Israel are made up of twelve tribes, many communities, and differing opinions. Still, they must always remember that they are one people. The portion of "פקודי" teaches that the construction of the Tabernacle — including the collection of donations, crafting of the vessels, and building — is credited to the entire nation. The verse expresses this in special words: "וַתֵּכֶל כָּל עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁכַּן אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד; וַיַּעֲשׂוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה ה' אֶת מֹשֶׁה, כֵּן עָשׂוּ.". Each person contributed their part — some through material donations, others through artistic work, and some through building the Tabernacle.

The Divine Presence in Israel

The verse that introduces the commandment to build the Tabernacle says: "וְעָשׂוּ לִי מִקְדָּשׁ וְשָׁכַנְתִּי בְּתוֹכָם", Our sages noted the word "בְּתוֹכָם" and explained that the intention is for the Divine Presence to dwell within each individual in Israel — within their hearts. Meaning, God would dwell in the Tabernacle, but the implication is that each person would feel God's closeness inside. The portion of "פקודי" teaches that this indeed happened. The people of Israel all took part in the work of the Tabernacle, and God fulfilled His promise and caused His Presence to dwell in the Tabernacle: "וּכְבוֹד ה' מָלֵא אֶת הַמִּשְׁכָּן".
